Eight Random Acts of Kindness That You Can Use Everyday

Posted on 07 June 2016

Yesterday, we added a small Instagram post asking for people to do Random Acts of Kindness. It was Monday after all, a fresh start to the week we just threw it up there.

What we didn't expect was to receive a DM & three emails within the first five minutes asking us a question. While worded differently, the theme was the same.

What is a Random Act of Kindness? How Do I Be Kind Everyday?

Now, we know that was only four people asking, but it got us thinking. How many people had the same thought but didn't want to ask the question.

We decided to create a quick list of Random Acts of Kindness  that you can incorporate into your every day life.

Here are Eight Random Acts of Kindness that you can do everyday.

Eight Random Acts of Kindness

1. MANNERS PLEASE

Please use your please & thank you's. Don't just limit it to guy making your coffee or the girl at the Service Station, make sure to be kind to your immediate family.  Say please & thank you to your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, mum, dad, kids. Don't take what they do for you as granted, always show your gratitude.

2. GREET PEOPLE

Walking the dog this morning? Say hello as you walk past people. Say Good Morning before ordering that cup of coffee.

3. CALL SOMEONE

Call your Grandparents, a friend, a cousin. Someone that you haven't spoken with for a long time. Don't just text them, pick up the phone. They will love it!

4. SEND A HAND WRITTEN NOTE

This will cost $1.00 & about 60 seconds of your time but the impact on the recipient will be huge.

Remember that feeling when you see a bright coloured envelope, address hand written in your letter box?

5. HOLD THE DOOR

Out & about doing a little shopping today? See the struggling parent with a toddler on the hip & bags in the other hand. Open the door for them. They won't mind, in fact they will be very appreciative.

Further, leaving or entering a store, hold the door for the other person.

6. LET SOMEONE KNOW YOU ARE THINKING OF THEM

Pick one person from your phone contact list. Send a text message to let them know you are thinking of them.

Stuck for ideas? Try Don't Forget to Smile Today or Have a Lovely Day or Simply I Miss You.

None of these ideas suit you? Pop over to our article on Random Acts of Kind Words for some inspiration.

The last two make our green heart sing!

7. DONATE FOOD, TOYS OR CLOTHES

The next time you are in the supermarket, throw 1 extra non perishable item in your shopping basket.

Hitting the big sales, grabbing that $3 jumper, grab 1 extra to donate.

Don't have a  lot of money? No worries, a quick search of your home will turn up some items or non perishable food that you can donate.

Still can't find something to donate? How about your time? That doesn't cost a thing. Stuck for where to volunteer? Read our Volunteers Tips Article.

8. PLANT A TREE

Kind for the planet & it will make your heart sing!
